Going Irish

My seats.20+ hours in the car, 2 inches of snow and pretty much no sleep.  Add it up and what do you have?  An absolutely awesome weekend.

A buddy of mine had an extra ticket to the BYU-Notre Dame game up in South Bend.  It took me all of 0.2 seconds from the time I got the invitation until I said “hell yes” – and the delay was actually processing the words.

The four of us packed my HHR and piled into it on Friday morning, hopped on 435 north and drove.

And drove.

And drove.

Aside from a brief stop at a nice little bar in Hannibal (cash only, great catfish sandwich and a long shuffleboard table) for lunch and a couple of bathroom/fuel breaks we drove straight through, arriving in South Bend about 10:30 pm.

I’ll recap it in a later post (I’m kind of tired – running on maybe five or six hours of sleep all weekend) but let me just say this – if you ever get the chance to go to a Fighting Irish football game up in South Bend you go.  Don’t think twice, don’t hesitate, don’t debate what else is going on that weekend – JUST GO.  It’s a great experience by itself, made even better if you happen to have awesome friends (like I do – including one ND grad) that are there, too.

See the Grotto, jam with the drum corps, snap a picture of Touchdown Jesus.  Spend some time in the bookstore.  See the stadium.  Go to the guard gate and say “I’m here to play football for the Irish” when they ask you why you’re there.

Great weekend – wouldn’t trade it for anything.
