It was another incredible May Fire! tournament.
For the third year in a row the tourney – which is the best doubles and quads tournament you’ll find in the Midwest – brought dozens of teams and as many spectators to Volleyball Beach. And once again nothing about the tournament failed to impress.
Freddy and I didn’t fare as well as we expected, but we still had fun. After dropping the opening match 2 games to 1 to move to the bottom bracket we pulled off a solid win to keep our hopes alive. Then we ran into Jeff and Taylor – one of the handful of teams we definitely did not expect to run into that early in the loser’s bracket. While we put up a fight in the end we couldn’t pull out a victory and our day ended about 12:30. So we propped our feet up with Darren and Cynthia and cracked open a couple of beers to watch the rest of the matches.
We’re looking forward to next year already – and rumor has it there will be a twist. Next year’s May Fire! tournament could be AVP Next – allowing players to qualify for the AVP tour. The implications of that are huge – and exciting.
Below are some of the pictures I took. All-told between Sammy and I we took probably 800 pictures – these were some of the best of the best. The post image you see here is one of my favorites – Jay (who ultimately won the tournament) getting so high above the net it was damn near impossible to hit over him.
