Last weekend was simply awesome. The outcome of the Chiefs game – while disappointing – was secondary because it was a great roadtrip weekend with a couple awesome friends.
It started on Thursday.
I got a text from one of my really good friends on the way up to the Wing that night – “And we have a new mission.” Potentially ominous if you don’t know my friend; promising-to-be-entertaining if you do. So I get there, grab a beer and we start discussing the fact that we haven’t gone to a Chiefs away game this year and that Indianapolis couldn’t sell out their own home playoff game. And since we’re loyal Chiefs fans and we love football we should

If I’m Mike Tomlin I’m P-I-S-S-E-D. I mean absolutely, positively furious, because by every account his team should be in the playoffs. And Mike McCoy should be counting his blessings and updating his Christmas card list for next year.
Thanks to a Ryan Succop miss with :08 left in regulation the Chargers are playoff bound, picking up the last wild card spot and giving the AFC West Continue reading Count Your Blessings
I have to tell you I’m actually somewhat relieved and hopeful after this weekend’s embarrassment.
Don’t get me wrong – I would much rather have had a win yesterday over the Colts. But considering just how poorly we played I’d rather get that out of our system against Indy this week than when we (likely) face them in the playoffs. Or against whomever we play in the playoffs.
The Colts continued their dominance of the Chiefs from a wins standpoint, taking the game 23-7. There wasn’t much positive to say about the game from any dimension as a Chiefs fan, but Continue reading Sadly Relieved
Every Christmas season I get the pleasure of doing a recap of the Kansas City (ish) sports teams. This is one of my favorite things to do – I get to join my creative (? I call it “creative”) side with my passion for sports and figure out how in the hell to rhyme words with “Santana” and “purple”. This always goes on my out of office reply at work (even if I’m not actually out of the office…like this year) and I usually put it on my work voicemail as well.
Here it is, for my Paul Gillespie Experience readers: the 2013 edition of “Twas the Week Before Christmas“.

Well that escalated quickly.
Just when you thought it was safe to explain to innocent bystanders exactly who the Chiefs are Sunday happened. I don’t know about you but the team I expected to show up Sunday against Oakland was not the one that did. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not arguing one bit – a win is a win is a win. And while I expected a win (it is the Raiders, after all) I did not expect the Chiefs to completely embarrass Oakland the way they did…mostly because I didn’t think they could.
Oakland is Continue reading We Are Who We Thought We Were
Awww, poor horsey. I’m sorry you lost to the Chargers on Thursday night.
Not in the least.
Not even kinda sorta remotely.
Not that I have much room to talk – the Chiefs three losses have come to both those teams, but it’s still nice to see the Broncos choke on a Thursday night game to a team that’s not going to make the playoffs.
This opens a Continue reading Poor Horsey
I haven’t listened to sports radio, ESPN or seen/heard any recap of the Chiefs game from anyone else aside from the friends who were at the same watch party but I’m pretty sure I can tell you what’s being said. The Chiefs still don’t seem to have the level of respect that other, less talented (and fewer-win) teams do for some reason. I’ve heard the commentary all year long to date and I can almost parrot back every comment made about backup quarterbacks, weak teams and no injuries.
So let me attempt to play Carnak the Magnificent and tell you what Continue reading Let the Excuses Begin
