Pretty People Playing Pretty Volleyball

On May 16, 2015, the May Fire! beach volleyball tournament returns to Volleyball Beach in Martin City for its third annual run.  For those of you not familiar with what May Fire! is you can explain it in one of several words: awesome, incredible, spectacular, inspiring.  But my favorite adjective for the experience of the tournament is this one: Continue reading Pretty People Playing Pretty Volleyball

May’s on FIRE!

This past weekend was the annual May Fire! tournament out at Volleyball Beach.  If you’re not familiar with May Fire! think of it this way – the best beach volleyball players around make their way out to Martin City (south KC) and compete for thousands of dollars in prize money.  It’s easily the best beach volleyball you’ll see in the Midwest.

This year was no disappointment.  The battles were many, and it didn’t matter which team you were rooting for – you couldn’t help but be impressed when Continue reading May’s on FIRE!

Did Somebody Say ‘Badminton’?

It's badminton time! Why yes, yes they did – as in a beach badminton tournament out at my home away from home – Volleyball Beach (who, incidentally, has an awesome new website up – make sure you check it out!).

It’s the Wayside Waifs Charity badminton tournament on July 13th at 6:30pm and it might be a first in the world of the best beach volleyball complex in the midwest.  You’ve seen Olympic-style badminton on TV (maybe “seen” is a bad word; you can’t actually see the birdies get pounded around because things fly so fast) and now it’s time to experience it yourself with a few added twists.

The Olympics have nothing on Continue reading Did Somebody Say ‘Badminton’?

Being Supportive By Having Fun

MineEvery day we’re bombarded with requests to support charitable organizations.  Some are local, some are national; some are to help children, some are to help adults, some are to help animals; some are driven by a medical situation, some by a natural event, some by the simple fact that life sometimes throws you a curve when you’re expecting a slider.

You may feel obligated to support one or more of these causes – that’s 100% your business and whether or not you do we don’t judge here at The Paul Gillespie Experience (if we did Continue reading Being Supportive By Having Fun

As Good As I Once Was

Actually, yes I am.Given the title of this post there are about seventy two different ways I could take things but I’m going to go the route nearest and dearest to my heart.

And that would be…(let’s all say it together)…BEACH VOLLEYBALL.

I was listening to some country music, taking a break from perhaps the most awesome Pandora station I’ve ever created (“Africa” by Toto was the catalyst) and this song came on.  I decided right then and there I was going to scrap the other post I was working on and do this one instead.  It’s actually not the overall sentiment that I’m as good (or not) as I once was that convinced me to write this post – it was a particular line in the song Continue reading As Good As I Once Was

Engineering Marvel

I will apologize in advance for the plethora of puns that are inherent in that title. And by “apologize” I mean “not apologize in the least because puns are awesome”.

This weekend was an absolute blast. From Friday at five ‘til Sunday at closing time (to quote a John Michael Montgomery song) it was non-stop good times to be had in the land of Paul Gillespie. Of course those who know me know that “good times to be had in the land of Paul Gillespie” isn’t exactly something that’s Continue reading Engineering Marvel
