It’s been decided.
We’re doing the Tough Mudder this year. And by “we” I mean me and whomever else wants to have a great time for a great cause which, I assume, would include you.
I had so much fun at the Warrior Dash that I decided there really is no room for debate – it’s time to commit to the next step. But it’s not something you do alone, like running a marathon or a 5k. Even the Warrior Dash could be an individual effort (although it’s much more fun as a team). Tough Mudder is, without a doubt, a team event. And I need a team.
This year in Kansas City it’s the weekend of September 21st, so mark your calendars. You can hit their web site (here) for details on it.
If you’re not sure what Tough Mudder is click here (and make sure you check out the videos of the event on that page). Basically it’s an obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. It sounds incredibly challenging and probably just as painful, but above all else it sounds FUN. And because I’m a fan of fun I’m going to do it.
How about this – throughout a 10-12 mile run you have to swim through an ice-filled dumpster, scale 12-foot walls, slide on your belly through frigid water with live electrical wires overhead and carry a heavy log over a half-mile of terrain. And about 20 or so other obstacles that stand between you and the finish line, a cold beer and a feeling of pure accomplishment.
On the minus side it might take a week or five to recover. On the plus side with a team you can keep each other going and help each other get through the obstacles alive. I say it’s worth it.
So who’s with me? Who’s up for the challenge?by
